Oppe shop finds

We went shopping today, not the normal run of the mill crowd shopping  but the leisurely thrift store op shop shopping-what a lovely way to spend a Saturday morning….

P1040222 Well look at the first book and not a page had been turned my shopping partner found it and for a nice price of $4…the second book is fantastic it’s from 1965 and has real understandable instructions for heaps of embroidery stitches-just what I need.

P1040223Lovely fabric finds this lot totalled $3.50 the fish print (1 metre)is a beautiful Japan print ,next is some lovely kiddie cotton (2 metre) and then 1 metre of calico..and last bit is beautiful..close up pic below. And the wooden hanger cause I love that style and the wee plastic bag has 6 wooden buttons in it

P1040224 This fabric is a real soft pink colour with the beautiful flowers on it-heck knows what I will use it for but golly it’s nice I couldna leave it there eh?

P1040220 And look at this solid timber and like hey I know it’s blue but I could not leave it it was screaming at me buy me buy me..And so I did for the  sum of

P1040221 see the top is a removable lid , and my stitchery fits in there perfect..not sure what I will pop in the front yet, but hey for $10 I’m not fussed…

Oh yes and my shopping partner was my dear hubby-what a man eh-and yep he got him self some gadgetty things too..

Oopsie Daisy Stop

Today I again indulged and made something for me…….

Tadaaaaaaah Oopsie Daisy Doorstop, designed by Jenny and published in Creating Country Threads Vol 10 No 8..and such a joy to make..

P1040215 Normally I would of chosen fabrics like Jenny used, however I am determined to step out of my comfort zone with many projects this year…

P1040216 The reverse side..and yep I have stitched the handle down in places..due too a certain 4 legged creature-that would of taken this for a walk had the handle been left free…

Thanks Jenny for another awesome design..now on another note hubby needs a upper cheek slap bigtime as when I showed him my doorstop he cackled laughing saying "it looks like an alien” too which I replied have another beer…

(Shhhh don’t tell him but on looking at it in the pic I guess it does have a kinda alien look to it, but we shall just keep  that to our selves).

Made for me..

Today was a carefree day to do what I want and totally I mean that –by finishing that blue thang I feel freeee…

I sat this morning with a couple of magazines and was browsing thru  the pages when this page jumped at me

P1040211 Oh yes that’s right I remember seeing this on a blog

it read something along the lines of yeah “I’m in print”-way to go Dawn-  of Dawn Hay designs…-I soo need a nice new cover for my ironing board….

Yes I can go buy a cover but ugly fugly they all are and so many of them are blue….

I quickly realized I didn't have the requirements to make the cover like  Dawn had, but I could fudge it yep I can…

So I dug deep into the “one day I will use this box”  and found a lovely embroidered block I received several years ago and a sewing I went.

P1040210 ahh so much better than the old tatty one….

P1040209

hehe see the chook such lovely stitching and so much better on here than stuck in a drawer.

Thanks heaps Dawn for the inspiration –whilst mines not as pretty  as yours it sure will get some use….

KING BLUE COMPLETED (photo heavy post)

skippety do dah skippety day..my oh my what a wonderful day!!!!!!!!!!
Yep true it is this quilt has been like  a doom cloud  hanging over me ,not that it’s ugly, not that it was complicated, just that it is blue and I don’t like the colour blue..
So way way back in August last year I posted this pic.
so much blueeeeee
Ekkk so much blue.
strips cut
Then I cut it all up into 2½” strips..
Alas then it sat for a tad whilst I got over my blue shock…
strips get sewn
Ahh look progress happened again I started sewing the strips together..
Umm and somewhere along the time line I cut them strips into squares..
And sewed them together in rows…
P1040078
And then I sectioned it all off into three bits (pic above being one of the outer sections)
And then for months I quilted and quilted and back quilted and cussed and threatened to throw it in the bin bal blah blah……
then couple of weeks ago I finally had all three bits quilted.
sections onm bed
AND now I have finished it all yeeeeeeeeeehaaaaaaaaaaah…..
P1040204 P1040205
There it is on our king size bed (now this is for a queen size bed-but the lady requested a bigger size)
P1040201
hmm see how much it hangs I am sure she will be impressed…..
This quilt measures 104"x104” yep I have deemed myself totally insane ..and all sewing done on a simple domestic sewing machine.
Thank you you all for your words of encouragement and inspiration along the way (specially when so many of you know I don’t like blue….

And hubby couldn't stop me ner ner ner don’t use my left foot to sew hehehe…

Ages ago I was in a nine patch block swap..I requested blocks in brights with a black centre-only cause I hadn’t done anything in brights..well these blocks have been in and out of the drawer so many times..then ding light bulb moment happened friday afternoon…

Chop the blocks up add some novelty (eye spy ) charms that have been sitting in another drawer for long long time and yadaaahhh a quilt has sprung…

P1040192

Hard top get a good pic as it’s blowing a lovely cool breeze here today, so there it is 1 lovely bright (not for an epileptic –hubby said) quilt…

Op shop finds

well yeah lucky me had some great op shop finds last Saturday…Lucy (who is a slack  blogger ) was up here in Darwin for the Superbikes as her son races a Suzuki..
Ahh looky Lucy is back home  now I can post a pic of us..

Anyways on Sat morning I went and picked Lucy up
and we went bargain hunting and we had a ball…
P1040174 I scored this beautifully made calendar holder-although not my colour the work is beautiful and I can makeup a pattern too all for $2.
P1040175 This gorgeous top may just end up being a calendar holder or a cute bag and for just $1.50 .
P1040177 Then there was this various bit’s and bob’s from several different stores..
P1040176 Oh and a trip to Spotlight ‘cause I had to get some ribbon and embroidery cotton for a up coming project and well umm the fabric started screaming at me so I was good and just bought 4 bits….
This was the first time Lucy and I had met ion the three dimensional form…
We had a wonderful time and yeah we will be able to do it all again in 12 months time….

OPAM’s and a giveaway.

Well all is well as can be..pain is bearable and pain meds not giving any great side effects yipeee-no not yipee sitting still does not sit well with me but alas I must do as I’m told cause  dear Hubby is home with me..”sit down” “let me do that” yadee yadde yah..

So what is one to do but finish off some UFO’s…..

Table runner and 4 coasters.

P1040187 Hexagon Christmas table runner, these hexagons where from a group swap –I started sewing them together October 2007 and am happy too say now April 2010 they is done.

Cover mat for my printer.

P1040188 oops just realized this is the back of the mat..be right back with a pic of the front……

Ahh here we go now you didn’t miss me eh?

P1040189 Ahh that’s it, from memory this fabric was called ginger blossom, Originally I made this mat to take a photo to transfer onto Roclon-which I did and made a wee bag which can be seen here. Anyways I realized on Sunday that it would be the perfect size to sit atop my printer.

And way back in 2005 I bought every Golly pattern I could find on Ebay and started making me some

golly appliqué blocks..well sadly these poor blocks sat in my WISPS (works in progress storage)drawer without any faces..over the past week or so I have giving these poor golly’s life and finally have finished my hanging…(just need hubby to make me a hanger)..

P1040183 Very hard to get a good picture of this due to our lovely fresh overcast day today…Anyways so that is it I am happy with it but am now over doing any more golly applique..so I am happy to swap my golly patterns for some variegated embroidery thread (pinks-greens-browns-reds)…

P1040191

so If you would like to be the new owner of these 14 appliqué patterns speak up now…..

Make do Mini Quilt Challenge

Well well well finally Mr Blogger lets me in grr to blogger somedays.

Lyn set a challenge last year with some very very old hand sewn hexagon blocks that she bought, the participants were given 5 blocks each and had too use at least 4 in their item.

4 of mine were roughly the same size and then 1 was bigger..I thought about what I was going to make for a while and then this idea came to mind and I set about doing it…all by hand just as the blocks were sewn by hand .,..OH yeah and man were these blocks fragile…

P1040180 [800x600] oops looking at the picture I have not bent the hanger properly shhhh don’t tell hubby..he felt so special when I asked him to make it for me-I painted it a dark green…and I am actually happy with the way this has turned out-thanks Lyn for the opportunity to participate..

RAK winners

Some of you may not know but I do a RAK (random act of kindness) every month on my blog,

at the end of each month I jot down the names of all the people who have left a comment for that month and then I stab the paper with my eyes closed and the  landing place of the nib denotes the winner.

Well I was remiss in Feb –but have just rectified that and the winner is Joy

And the March winner is Tracy ,

please email me your snail mail addresses so I can pop a something in the mail to you..

KingBlue is quilted

Finally finally the bits are quilted, .

P1040171

I have just quickly thrown  the three bits on our king size bed so you can see it’s size..

now this is going to be on a queen size bed I am thinking she will be happy with the size..All to do is join the three bits together with a small strip of the aqua fabric then binding..not going to kid myself this will probably take another couple of weeks..

But it has got me thinking quilts in sections done with one of them quilting frames for your domestic machine may be the way to go…

Foot update

Ok have been back to the specialist today to view the results of the MRI… the mortons neuroma has not grown back, there is fluid between the 3rd and 4th toe and a small lump on the ball of the foot….I am in  to the hospital on 14th April for cortisone injection and bone manipulation of my left foot…I am not under any false thoughts - this will hurt-does hurt-and if anyone would like to go in my place they are welcome….however I truly need to go don’t I –like heck we only have one set of feet and mine still have plenty of miles planned to do…….if this does not alleviate the pain for some time-then I have to get an appointment with the visiting foot specialist..oh the joy of living where you only have visiting specialists grrrr..am thinking I’ll book an appt with this dude just so I know I am on the list, won’t hurt to cancel if I don’t need it…

ULUI runner

Yeah I can post on my blog again woohoo…I tell yah some days I just feel like putting a big red X on blogger-but today it’s being nice so I shall continue.
Last weekend Jenny posted she was making a table runner to help her sit out Cyclone Ului, well what an awesome idea –lovely oppsie daises in the corners and a pack of charm squares (well I have several I really need to use)…
Soo I opened the draw grabbed a pack-printed of the daises –grabbed some plain fabric traced them out and hiho hiho a sewing I did go…..and I looooove it ..
ULUI Beautiful Moda-Fabulous Fall charm squares…
ULUI cnr Oopsie in the corner so sweet just makes the runner I reckon. mental note to self iron our creases before taking a pic---yeah yeah one day…..
I did have a problem selecting the border fabric so I was brave and asked Mr Techno to come and assist and within seconds he had chosen the fabric that I used..good man think I’ll keep him…
Thank you so much Jenny this was a delightful project to do…
Oh yeah and yippee another finish for the OPAM for March.Cheers Vickie

Was lost but is now found.

Ok I wasn’t really lost but sheeeesh sure felt like I was…too many things happening and not enough hours in the day and the weeks have just flown by..

My foot is still being painful and i am booked in for an MRI on the 26 March.

I have been doing some sewing stuffs (in my mind) with this bundle ,that I received from Lauren in the the ugly fat quarter swap. Gist is you send your partner a fat ¼ of ugly fabric and some trimmings  and your partner can add 1 fat ¼ to it and then make you something and turn it into something that will make the fat ¼ more appealing

P1040136

Lauren sent me a florally fat ¼ ,olive green trim, cream ric rak a vintage looking key some pink buttons and a kit kat-well I’ve munched on the kit kat whilst thinking what to make out of this and return to Lauren..hmmmm some plans are actually happening now…

I received my purchase from that wonderful online bookstore yes you know the one…the book depository uk.

P1040149

Isn’t it beautiful yep and it’s all Jenny’s fault –yep it sure is I wouldna fib to you..see I won some Cath Kidson stickers and pre cut fabric hearts from Jenny and I just fell in love with them and had to have something more…

ANDDDDDDDDDDDDD my purchase from my favourite online supply place Nancy’s Notions came today yipeeeeeeee.

P1040150

hmmm goodies a twiggy layer cake a magic vine charm pack some melly & me patterns a table runner pattern some iron easy ands some country fair pear tossed floral fabric which is a nice strudy cotton…

OH yes and I have been doing sewing on the make do memories mini quilt challenge hosted by Lyn golly gosh these blocks are so fragile-what a joy it is to be able to help preserve some and oh dear what a nooncehead I am –in all my wisdom I decided to hand sew my project cause the original blocks are hand sewn..hmm will I make the deadline date yes I think I will……

Retail therapy

Yep that’s the one-go spend money to make yourself feel bettterah and I must say that this was the first time for me this year to purchase??????????????????????????? yep you guessed it fabric…
So I pressed the buttons and a shopping I went..my first stop was that place yes that one the book depository uk-oh dear me I was so controlled I only purchased one book-will show it when I get it…
Still feeling somewhat icky-undecided-confuzzled-and with the desire to spend I zipped of to Nancy’s Notions—oops spent up a bit there-but truly it will be used and some of it is for my March RAK…
Ok what has got me in this mood???????
Well my blasted foot has been playing up again to the point where walking with anything else but joggers/trainers on my feet is very painful..now in this climate that’s just not on..
Anyways’ I’m off to see the specialist tomorrow and see what he has to say-for those who have not been in here long-I had a Mortons Neuroma removed Oct ‘08-truly you have to of had one of these to understand the unbearable pain(truly I’d go thru childbirth again rather that this foot).
So we shall see what he says tomorrow..hmmmm probably send me off for an ultrasound $$$$ , truly $70 to go to Dr and get referral-$120 to see specialist tomorrow..$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ so spending some on me was my justification to make me feel better…

Oh Dear

What a wonderful end to the week to go to the PO box and find this pretty pretty prize awaiting me.

P1040107 See them hearts they are so darn cute and the book is full of stickers lucky me won this in the January tea towel challenge from Jenny , have you joined her Feb challenge??? Thank you so much Jenny-have had a few ideas jump around for the hearts…

I had such craftiness planned for this weekend but alas none of it happened-due to some horrid bug that decided to latch on to me late friday night..felt like a Mack had slammed straight into my back and my vision was a tad screwiffy..

Not wanting to sleep the weekend away I decided to do some cooking.

P1040109 Hmm yummy chicken and vegie soup cooked in the crockpot-I always remember nan saying chicken soup fixes all ails…

P1040111 And one rather flat looking gluten free loaf of bread..but it still tasted yummo and went well with the soup.

then we had

P1040112 Some berry slice with cream…hmm now i think this recipe came from Peg (cause she always makes  yummy things).

P1040108 And do you know what this is?????????????

It’s Monday nights dinner, can’t wait to sink my teeth into it so tasty….

ECHO Echo hello

Never never never will I say yes I can make it if you would like…never ever ever,

the king blue has a batik like fabric for the backing..and gawd I washed it twice before using and still it is horrid and it does not move freely under the machine..and I am sooooooo over it…I will   state that the minutes of froggy stitch-backward stitch unpicking-time waster stitch has added to hours…so I spent a couple of hours here and there on ebay (truly time just zooms when on there) ended up getting and old singer machine yeah (have wanted one for  a long time)..shall post pics when It arrives…

Umm and nothing else to report but I truly wish I could fit the king blue into this bag..

P1040106 I was at a op shoppe /thrift store today and the lady grabbed this bag to pop my goodies in –well I busted up laughing and she said “oh dear sorry I’ll get you another”..I said no no I love that bag it is so me…she then looked at me like I was a tad loopy-but that’s ok I don’t go there often,It is 100% cotton and I feel it will get used a fair bit-but unfortunately the king blue will not fit in it..aw well back to do some more of it tomorrow evening.
