Spice Jars

Due to food allergies I have gone back too the old fashioned way  more natural way of cooking food instead of buying premix packages of wot not, I am using herbs and spices –fresh when I can.

Anyways today I was going thru my jars of spice in the spice rack and man I was straining my eyes really hard to see the use by dates, holy some of them expired in 2006 anyways I decided I would empty the contents after I could decipher the use by date as gone and rinse them out and reuse them as I had seen Jenny do awhile ago on her blog.

So there they were all lined up in the drainer when dushdang I noticed an embossed use by date on the bottom of the jar…arghh that was a heck of a lot easier to read then the printed one on the jar surface..

So that’s my interesting day…

Cheers Vickie

Thanks for stopping by.

I'm a fiend about expiration dates ... that's why it takes me forever to shop for groceries, that plus reading the ingredients lists. I don't like processed foods - just the name "processed" gives me the chills and try to stick with fresh whenever possible...I have to buy a few cans of veggies I can't get fresh, but I definitely don't buy pre-packaged foods and mixes because they just give me the creeps.

Also, I keep everything in the fridge, even sugar, flower and of course, spices and herbs...even cereal and anything really that's not in a can. I keep nuts, beans and pasta in the freezer, but then I live in humid Georgia where bugs rule!

Ta-ta!

Hello Vickie, having the same problems, too many preservatives in everthing, making your own food from scratch including growing your own you know what is in there. Happy days.

lol I've been using those spice jars and squinting, too for many years.....and it was only now that I found out the use by date is on the bottom!!! Home cooked food is always much nicer than what comes out of a packet. After a while you will be able to tell the difference....and will go yuk! to the packaged stuff.

Good for you to try to stay away from prepackaged foods. It really isn't difficult once you get into the swing! ~karen
